Safonts is a webring dedicated to celebrating the power of type and typography in the realm of personal website design.

Do you like fonts? Perhaps your personal website was made around a particular font, or utilizes fonts as a core element in its design? Consider joining!

What the heck is a safont?

A “safont” is just somebody that loves fonts, whether that’s loving particular fonts, or like using them as a key element in designs. “Safont” is a portmanteau of “font savant”, made to closely sound like “savant”. (grey and xandra came up with the term, the latter of whom formerly ran the webring.)

And what’s a webring?

A webring is a list of websites that connect to each other in a circle. Websites can join the list by applying, and if they’re approved, they stick a little widget on their site that allows viewers to go to the previous or next website in that webring. It’s a great way to discover like-minded sites without the need of a search engine!

Usually webrings will center around a topic. Here, Safonts centers around websites that utilize fonts and text as primary elements in their design, in past or present.

Who’s running this?

Safonts was originally established in April 2022 by xandra, who ran the webring for over 3 years. In July 2025, the torch was passed to Melvian, who redesigned the website and is the current operator.
