As the title says, submissions to the Safonts webring are now open again!

Be sure to read the rules in the Join page to make sure your website would be a good fit for the webring. Then there will be a link where you can go to the actual application form.

That’s all!

Slight rule change

2025-12-26

Hewwo!

I have adjusted the rules just a touch regarding NSFW sites. Such sites will remain allowed to be part of the webring, but additional rules have been added regarding them.

Specifically:

  1. NSFW sites must contain content warnings that people click through to access the NSFW part of your site. I will not mandate how those content warnings are formatted, simply indicating that they are NSFW is enough. By NSFW, I primarily refer to sexual content and nudity.
  2. The widget or links you put that link to this webring must be placed in an SFW section of the site. People must not be required to click past your NSFW content warnings in order to access the webring.

These new set of rules will apply to:

  • Incoming members effective immediately, when submissions reopen (will be happening very soon!)
  • Non-migrated members effective immediately
  • Existing migrated members after December 30, 2025

Nearly every site that has been part of the Safonts webring already follow these rules, this rule change primarily serves as a clarification for incoming members.

If you have any questions regarding such rules, please do not feel afraid to contact me!

Introducing Safonts 2.0

2025-08-06

Heyo, and welcome to Safonts 2.0!

I am the webring’s new owner, Melvian, a silly ice dragon who sometimes makes fonts in his free time! Back in July, xandra asked me to take over the Safonts webring that she started back in 2022, so that she could spend more time on other, more important projects. I said yes, and immediately went to work giving the webring the attention it’s needed.

In addition to a complete aesthetic refresh of the website, the JavaScript-based widget has had some aesthetic alterations but also some adjustments from a functional standpoint (no more “site” attribute!) and even a new JavaScript-free way to be part of the webring! You can learn more about that in the Widgets page.

The most important update is that I’ve gone through all the sites and categorized them into websites that have the new widget, websites awaiting migration, websites with no links whatsoever and ones that are down. This system has been carefully designed so that only those with the new widget are part of the ring itself, yet reinserting sites after they’ve migrated is extremely easy to do.

When I went through all the sites I found that not only was the ring broken, half of the sites were dead or had no links (this was even before the migration). Now, with this new system, the ring is finally complete, and will continue to be complete a lot more often, even as people still migrate!

There are still plenty of things left to do, and a few changes I plan on making to the webring. For now, I’m leaving it as-is as a lot of people are still migrating and this is already enough of a massive overhaul.

For those of you in the webring and those who want to be part of it, please follow the RSS feed to stay updated. Announcements will be very infrequent, but I’ll be announcing when submissions open, as well as any potential feature- and rule-related changes that may affect existing members.

Until next time!
